Did you ever wonder why doughnuts have a hole in the middle? Why did the bakers design this delicious piece of bakery item with a hole? Quite interestingly, bakers proved that the hole in the middle allows the doughnut to cook completely when fried. Without the hole, the doughnut would be “doughy”.
There’s one more theory which goes back in time, when a man named Hanson Gregory, was alive. One stormy night, Gregory, who was a sea captain, found steering his ship hardly possible while eating his fried cake. Out of anger and possibly hunger, he poked his doughnut into one of the spokes of the ship, and voila, created a hole in the middle. Satisfied, he stuck his finger into the doughnut – and then steered and ate at the same time.
Whatever the reason of the hole, this delicious piece of bakery item is enjoyed all over the world, with all kinds of toppings and fillings!
